loafer love

image via my polyvore

My favorite new trend in footwear is loafers. These casual slip-ons can really add a quick pop to your outfit - whether you want to go super sleek in the black patent leather, old school English in tartan pattern, or rock out in velvet McQueen. Right now, I'm particularly partial to leopard loafers so when these Steve Madden tailored loafers went on sale, I had to scoop them up.

Here, I paired them with skinny jeggings, a royal blue blazer and simple white t-shirt.

In preparation of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show tomorrow night, I wanted to share some photos of one of my favorite models - Miranda Kerr.

inspired by: ashley olsen

I ripped out this "Look for Less" spread in a magazine months ago and I've been meaning to try it ever since. I love these type of feature pieces, because I'm always trying to replicate stars' looks in one way or another.

In this spread Ashley Olsen is wearing a heavily lined eye, a gray smokey lid, mauve rose blush and creamy neutral lips. For my version I used the following:

Creep and Sin from the Urban Decay Naked Palette for smudging
NYX Haute Jersey Leopard Couture Palette on lids and for peach blush
DIOR - DiorShow Mascara in Black
MAC x DSquared Nude Rose

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Brush, featured in Naked palette

I started off applying Sin from the Naked palette under my brow and then used a gray glitter color from the NYX palette (these colors do not have specific names, so if you're wondering its the third color on the fifth line) I then highlighted my crease with the color to the left of it, a deeper sparkly gray. I then traced my upper lash line with the Engraved pencil and smudged outward with Creep using a MAC 212 flat definer brush. I lined the bottom eye with Engraved and also smudged outward with Creep and highlighted the edge of the lash line with the gray from the NYX palette.

For my cheeks I used one of the peach blushes from the NYX palette and the MAC 168 angled blush brush. I love this brush!!

On my lips I used MAC x DSquared in Nude Rose - this is a few years old so for a similar milky pink-beige try: Boots No 7 in Nude

ithaca, ny

This weekend we went up to Ithaca, NY with some friends to go antiquing and just hang out. It's so weird; even though I'm in my home state I feel worlds away upstate. Life up there is so simple and stress free compared to living in New York City; you enjoy the trees, nature, open spaces and clean air. I love visiting the antique shops and picking through old furniture and house-ware, it's so fun.

the modern pilgrim girl

I always had a fascination with 15th and 16th century pilgrims' clothing; broad hats, black and brown colors, petticoats, stocking, belts, lace, patchwork quilt and of course the infamous white collar.

If I were a pilgrim today, I'd spice up my outfit with some glitter, gold and jewel tones like below.

wet 'n' wild mega last lip swatch and review

Every time I run into Harmon I can't help but browse the makeup section. They carry a big selection of NYX and Wet 'n' Wild products, so I usually pick something up. Today I went for Wet ‘n’ Wild Mega Last Lip Color ($2.69) in Just Peachy and Red Velvet.

While this lipstick claims to be long lasting, it faded after about three hours, with no eating and some drinking involved. It's a semi-matte finish, which I like and Just Peachy is a bit more smooth and glides on with more ease than Red Velvet. It took two strokes for the color to show up on my lips and if I was going for a subtle lip look anyway.

The packaging on this product isn't the greatest; the lipstick itself wobbles when you apply and putting the cap on takes a steady hand or you'll nick and bruise your lipstick.

Anyway, on to the photos.

Just Peachy and Red Velvet

Red Velvet
All in all, I would give Just Peachy a better rating because with a few swatches the color is very pretty and wearable for day or night. Plus, it's an affordable peachy/pale pink that won't break the bank, like YSL Nude Beige. It's more matte too, which I like. My lips don't get very dry so when they do, I'll just slick some balm underneath before I apply.

As far as Red Velvet goes, my skin is a bit too cool for it. It's a lovely bright cherry color and its application is pretty smooth. If you are used to blue-based reds then this will work for you. It's just hard for me to wear a blue-red without looking like the crazy cat lady, so we'll hold off on this color till the next time.

girls night

Sometimes it's fun to get away from the boys for the night and just hang out with your girls. On Saturday we strolled around my favorite Manhattan neighborhood - the West Village.

We hit up a few random lounges and ate quesadillas and drank sangria at Cowgirl, amazing! It was a perfect mild November night.
